Kona Community Hospital in Kealakekua, Hawaii, is a not-for-profit surgical and general medical hospital with 94 beds.
Inpatient services include hospitalists, cancer services, maternity services, behavioral health, rehabilitation services, a skilled nursing facility, a cardiology clinic, end-of-life services or pllative care. Outpatient services consist of chemotherapy, breast cancer screening/mammograms, and a certified trauma center. The diagnostic and therapeutic imaging services include a diagnostic radioisotope facility, an electron beam CT, a MRI, ultrasound, and a CT scanner.
The behavioral Health Unit (BHU) has 11 inpatient rooms. Registered nurses, psychiatric aides, case managers, psychiatrists, social workers, and other services are part of the multidisciplinary treatment team. The team works with outpatinet mental health care providers to assure the best reintegration into the community.
The Cancer Care Program provides radiation oncology, infusion services, cancer registry, and diagnostic services.
The emergency department achieved a Level III trauma center designation in 2011 and is, therefore, part of a statewide system.
The skilled nursing unit is on the 1st foor of the hospital and occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech therapy are offered along with wound care, restorative care, diabetes management, medication adjustment, intravenous medication management, and pallative care.
The Kona Community Hospital also provides a weight managementprogram at it’s Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Center. The rogram provides surgical weight loss and medically managed options.
The Cardiology Clinic at Kona Community Hospital is parterned with Maui Heart and Vascular.
In 2013, The Kona Community Hospital received the Patient Safety Excellence Award which recognizes how wel a hospital prevents medical errors, infections, and other complications based on 13 patient saety standards.
